Finding the Center - Then and Now

Fl ashback 1996:  There was so much going on and there always is. I woke up. I felt a racing inside.  It was as if the blood inside of me had congealed and taken on race car status.  The rush. I asked myself -  Is this just coming awake?  Or is it that thing called anxiety? Why would I be anxious? I was dutiful, prayerful ( and now still I am) . I  was doing this every day.  It was law school. One of the best in the nation. Makes me a best too no? Get up, get washed, rub and oil down.  Brush and separate. Push up against the mirror.  Check my pores. Hot rag. Cold rag.  Smooth my brows. Rub the back of my neck. Smile at myself.  Check my booty.  Rise on my toes.  Stretch my body.  Dress. Find my keys Grab my 15 pound bag of books I go.  Day after day ...I went.  One day ... I stopped.  Looked at myself.  Deeper. From Terence A. Scott's upcoming Stripped Awakened 1997 to Present day No that...

Being a Grown Up on November 18th and beyond

So here I am again ..Realizing that as I start to write this...it is November 18, 2010 and that Thanksgiving is a week away. We know that the holiday ( Holy Day) conjures up all kinds of emotions and the getting together of friends and family.  I think of many Thanksgivings when I was a child and as such,  if we were with extended family, I sat at the "children's table." I now think about that time and what the differences were between those tables. You had to be a certain age to sit at the "adults table" and in truth I always seemed to have the attention of some adult in the room so I did not think I was missing anything. I did notice though that the fine china would be what the adult table was set with and while the (we) children had breakable plates there were no wine glasses, sharp utensils, or alcoholic beverages within our reach. We laughed and played with each other and sometimes our food. The children's table essentially was the safe place wi...

Filling Emptiness - Is it what you think?

It seems sometimes that the reason we exist is to fill emptiness. A good way we get to the meaning of who we are is through the experience of emptiness. For some of us it is the striving and the struggle to fill that emptiness that defines us and others around us.   This thought came to me today and it put into perspective many things that are happening now in our world  at large ....and so you know, I had to share. It truly applies to almost anything that we are involved in or rather that we involve ourselves in. Things coming to be what they are or what people would  like them to be requires acts that we believe are necessary when filling a void. No child is born without one cell coming into another.  Sperm goes  into egg (literally) and even before that be it in vitro or otherwise...well you know. Fetus grows into empty womb. Dare I say that our birth is our fullness. We come into being from something once empty already being filled. So thi...

Knowing What is Real

The picture of me above is 100% REAL. It is me on a fall morning almost  a year ago.  I know that I look something near 20 years old right? < Nod  and  insert your quick agreement here>. The cartoon rendering below my picture was sent to me by a friend, that is not real. I know it isn't real, but I am interested  in the artist. This year has been marked by experiences that I will just call "unreal".  I find myself ending relationships of all sorts, starting new ones, and reinvesting in others. It's a bit of a good and bad and I take it all in as the flow that life offers up. I sense something is not real, see it is not real, but I in my compassion develop an interest in how it is made up, I find myself  hoping I can help to authenticate it and have even told myself that the mutual artist (God) put the person or experience in my path so that I can help to make it real.  The truth  is  that the only thing I can authenticate...

Thought on Life and Business as I See It.

- Success can be attributed to many things. The top three are Trust, Optimism, and Skill.  Start there. - Be mindful when people project a need for a takeoff when what is really needed is a turnaround. - Grow for your own sake, then grown into sharing, giving and being cooperative with others.    Look around you. Who are you asking for what things in this life?  - "Transparency" is not a buzzword it is a core value and a reasonable expectation than can be used towards achieving long-term success - Those who call themselves business gurus are often full of ______ ( you fill in the blank) - The term "game -changer" has got to be the most overused and abused term in 2010. Stop it! - If you want to be really effective be honest about your failings and humanness, say no when you feel you   must. - Network high and low, everyone matters. Diversity is very important. - Do not pin your success on someone else's pipe dreams.  Build your o...
