Evaluation and Salutation of A MAN ( an advance thought as Father's Day 2011 approaches)

In evaluation and salutation of A MAN... I love the men in my life. I am very blessed to have them.  Many of them are examples of men who are loyal to their friends, families, women and their children.    They are all this and yet not perfect and they don't claim to be. As, I sit here a week from Father's Day and think ...what will I get for my Dad(?) I think about the structure of men. As for my Dad, this is a man who has never ever asked for anything of me other than to' go to school and be happy'. This is the man that was up at 5:30AM every morning to see to it that my sister and I got to 7 AM track practice when he was raising us in Texas. He's part of the reason I was a 9th Grader running Varsity and breaking records. (*discipline) This is the same man that when we were just 'itty -bitty girls' picked my sister and I up from the airport after a trip to visit with our Grandparents in Jamaica and instead of taking us direc...

You, ME and HIM

My dear friend who lives all too far away asked me how she could go about communicating the end of a relationship to someone who she loses courage to let go of  when they are face to face. She said it was only because she 'cannot stand the look of devastation that would be in his eyes'. I find that for those of us tied( professionally and personally) to media and artistic expression, it is easier to get it out that way. We read look or listen to it and all of a sudden ..courage to make it happen face to face comes along. In fact, I think this works well for almost anybody. She said she would try and in my own knowing of myself and imagining what I would do if the situation were mine, I wrote a piece that would be my spiritual and poetic truth if I had to cut the wrong one...

Being a Grown Up on November 18th and beyond

So here I am again ..Realizing that as I start to write this...it is November 18, 2010 and that Thanksgiving is a week away. We know that the holiday ( Holy Day) conjures up all kinds of emotions and the getting together of friends and family.  I think of many Thanksgivings when I was a child and as such,  if we were with extended family, I sat at the "children's table." I now think about that time and what the differences were between those tables. You had to be a certain age to sit at the "adults table" and in truth I always seemed to have the attention of some adult in the room so I did not think I was missing anything. I did notice though that the fine china would be what the adult table was set with and while the (we) children had breakable plates there were no wine glasses, sharp utensils, or alcoholic beverages within our reach. We laughed and played with each other and sometimes our food. The children's table essentially was the safe place wi...
